Syscom 18 has commissioned the Process Control System at Import Gas Station from Mediesu Aurit location
In the spring of 2016 Syscom 18 has commissioned the Process Control and Emergency Shut Down System at Import Gas Station from Mediesu Aurit location. The project - part of the modernization process undertaken by Transgaz S.A. - was developed in association with IMI S.A. Baia Mare. Its activities aimed to technological upgrade of the control equipment within the Station, which would provide a better management of Transgaz’ gas import capacity from Ukraine and the gas transport in the north - west of Romania.
Mediesu Aurit Gas Import Station is a strategic point for the national gas transmission network managed by Transgaz S.A. Within it’s entire service life to date this Station managed approximately 30 % of Romania’s natural gas imports. Also, the Technological Node part of the Station is managing the distribution of the natural gas primary flows for internal consumption in the country’s north-west (Baia Mare and Satu Mare cities) and west (Arad city) regions and for the storage in Sarmasu underground storage
The project was focused on implementation of an advanced solution for monitoring and control of technological activity in the Station, having two main components.
The first component aimed to modernize the technological equipment of the Station. For this purpose, new instrumentation process has been installed and for the electric actuators of approximately 70 valves it was adopted a modern control solution by bus communication technology in ring topology, with two control units SIMA Master Station in redundant configuration.
The second component was focused on adopting an advanced solution for controlling the import and technological node activity. For this purpose Syscom 18 delivered two modern control systems based on CompactLogix Allen-Bradley PLCs. Each controller is equipped with a 15' Operator Panel ensuring the interface with operator in out-of- normal circumstances. Normally the operator interface is provided by a local SCADA system having one workstation for operating, one workstation for monitoring and a third workstation for data archiving. A monitoring and control application is running on the operating and monitoring stations, application which was configured by Syscom 18 under Factory Talk View (Rockwell Automation) package, performing all the basic functions necessary in such a project, but customized to specific customer needs.
All relevant data for operation of the Station - about 600 parameters - are made available to SCADA system of Transgaz via Modbus TCP communication interface. The Process Control and Safety Emergency Shut Down System of the Import Gas Station in Mediesu Aurit location was completely designed, executed and implemented by Syscom 18 to the highest professional standards, starting with the power supply equipment and ending with the software engineering of the entire system.
